EDITING SERVICES...  (AND PROOFREADING TOO!)

Editing Services:
Here's a bit of Ego...I'm an excellent editor. That's because when I edit, I take off my 'writer's hat' and become an editor...

Writing vs. Editing - There's a difference:

  • Editing is an uncommon skill. It takes more than a dictionary and a grammar checker.
  • Too many editors are poor editors because they are frustrated writers. They lack the skill, innovation and creativity to write...
  • Some are simply too risk-averse to write... (Writers can become targets of the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune...Or critics.)
  • Avoid editors who would 'rewrite' your work their way...they may improve it, but that is rarely the case.

Here's a truth I learned from long experience - some pleasant, some painful:
I have worked with editors, for editors and I have hired editors. Here's the truth I learned from the good editors...A good editor makes your writing better than it would be without their input.

So What?
This heartfelt advice can save you grief. Find a good editor bethat me or someone else. You want an editor who makes your writing better...but who keeps your writing intact as your writing.

  • Being sensitive and tactful to your feelings,
  • Checking my ego at the door and strive to preserve your voice,

Professional Ethics and Conduct: Complete confidentiallity of ALL your infomation...Always!!!

Book Editing:

I edit entire books or a few chapters.

  • For an entire book, I deliver clear, concise presentation of the text and improve the flow of the book.
  • For chapters, I deliver clear, concise presentation of the text and flow within the chapter. I leave it to the author to manage the book flow.
  • Experienced writers have learned from my editing of chapters and took it from there.

Editing is bid by project on a per-page rate. (A page is 300 words. Your word processor will give you total word count, then divide by 300 for page count.)

Other Editing:
For other editing we discuss your topic, your purpose in writing, your intended audience and take it from there to a bid. Examples include:

  • Training workbooks and presentation materials.
  • Newsletters and articles.
  • Press releases.
  • Booklets, flyers and brochures.
  • Advertising materials.
  • Resumes and cover letters.
  • Website content.
  • Theses and dissertations.
  • Other...

This Editing is bid on a project basis.

We work out the details together.
