Copywriting - your goal is to sell:

  • Copywriting persuades people to buy goods, services or do business with you...
  • Examples: direct marketing letters, websites, display advertising, white papers (see White Papers below), telemarketing scripts, newsletters and other publications intended to sell.
  • Customers BUY BENEFITS. Their motivation is: "What's in it for me?" (WIFM)
  • I find words that influences the viewpoint that shows them the benefits you offer.
  • Together we analyze what you sell and who needs that.
  • Then we find some innovative, convincing words that tell them why they should do business with you.
  • We focus on the benefit. Then I write words that resonate with your audience - words to plant the benefits in the mind of your audience.

Business Writing - your goal is to inform:

  • You publish to inform, instruct, persuade, propose and build your image.
  • Examples: websites, manuals, newsletters, policies, procedures, instructions, marketing materials, quality standards, customer letters or other documents.
  • Publish copy that is clear, concise and useful.
  • You get proven, award-winning writing that communicates your intended message to your audience.

White Papers - informative business image builders:

Ready for an excellent way to persuade clients to do business with you?
Do you want to jump ahead of your competitors in your industry?
Here's what White Papers do so convincingly:

  • Demonstrate your expertise, uniqueness or advanced knowledge in the arena where you compete.
  • Enhance response to website, trade show and advertising offers.
  • Open doors wherever you contact potential or existing clients.
  • Effectively highlight your solutions to vexing problems,
  • Highlight your lead in areas of technology,
  • Show the power of your innovation.

Plans (Published) - Business, Marketing and Projects:

A plan not written and published, is more of a notion than a plan...
Published plans are tools to guide and inform you, employees, business partners, investors, bankers - perhaps even your clients.

Business Plans are:

  • Tangible evidence of you business skills; thinking, planning and executing business with a defined purpose...(This degree of professionalism is rare.)
  • Vital in securing loans or investment capital for startups, expansions and operations.
  • Every business needs a business plan to use in operations and update regularly.

Marketing Plans are:

  • Focused tools. They help you find, target and win profitable markets.
  • Client-focus tools. They help you identify what they want, how to reach them, how to sell them and how to keep them.
  • Great tools to identify "Below Zero" clients. BZs are the ones who cost you more than they return. Your bottom line gets better when you identify BZs, then give them to your competitors.

Project Plans are necessary if you want your projects to:

  • Stay within budget,
  • Complete, on schedule,
  • Meet or exceed your goal...

Project Management has been an essential part of my success in many arenas. Good project plans - and skillful execution of those plans - will go straight to bottom line. This will improve to results of any business.

Business Proposals - Win the big, profitable business:

I learned proposal writing and management at Hughes Aircraft Company a long time ago. We won many very large contracts that paid off in business that was profitable for years because our format was so good. The format was called STOP then.

The father of STOP was Jim Tracy of Hughes Aircraft Company at Ground Systems Group in Fullerton, California. Jim was an innovator with a clear focus on cummunicating complex technological information to decision makers at all levels. He developed the format that is so intensely logical that it sells. The format is so good that the information comes through loud and clear while being hidden from most users. It sells with a subltle process that achieves the goal without intrusion.

STOP has been 'borrowed, altered and renamed' by any number of others since. But, in my (never humble) opion, none of the improvements have been that. As is usually the case, most have complicated the process without adding value.

STOP works for large group efforts and to small business efforts. I offer three approaches:

  • I consult on format, language, style and the business tactics that naturally evolve during the proposal effort.
  • 2. I function as Project Manager of your proposal effort.
  • 3. I train your people in building and using STOP.

My partial record includes:

  • A software proposal that won a $500,000.00 grant from the Social Security Administration,
  • A two-year county towing contract,
  • A number of training contracts with commercial, government and non-profit clients.
  • Small business franchise agreements,
  • Winning long-term contracts and projects,
  • A marketing plan that was put in place, built and grew into owning two businesses.
